In this webinar, focused on practical application, Dr. Bissett will outline the evidence-based principles of respiratory muscle training, and how it can be safely applied to patients in an ICU setting, as well as in the recovery period. Participants will be able to identify patients suitable for RMT in the critical care setting, and prescribe appropriate training parameters to accelerate recovery following ventilator-dependence. These practical training strategies will be relevant to a broad range of patients, including those with an artificial airway. This webinar will be useful to respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and all staff working with ICU patients.

Speaker Bio: Professor Bernie Bissett is an Australian-based physiotherapist and leader in the field of inspiratory muscle training for intensive care patients. Over the past 25 years, Bernie has practiced as a physiotherapist in Sydney, London and Canberra, and she is currently the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health at University of Canberra. Bernie’s research has also been expanded to other patient groups including those with Parkinson’s Disease and Long COVID, and she remains passionate about improving quality of life through strength training.
