This course addresses the crucial need for integration and collaboration in providing rehabilitation services in the ICU. Focused on improving patient care, it discusses communication challenges, early mobility, and delirium management while exploring tools and strategies to enhance patient-provider interactions and uphold human rights during critical illness. Emphasizing the integral role of Speech Pathologists in the implementation of the ABCDEF bundle, the course highlights their involvement in evaluations and treatment from the onset of patient care. It also covers effective collaboration between disciplines through structured communication tools, education, and family support, stressing the importance of interdisciplinary rounds to enhance patient outcomes in the ICU.

About the Speakers:
Kali Dayton, DNP, AGACNP, is a critical care nurse practitioner, host of the Walking Home From The ICU and Walking You Through The ICU podcasts, and critical care outcomes consultant. She is dedicated to creating Awake and Walking ICUs by ensuring ICU sedation and mobility practices are aligned with current research. She works with ICU teams internationally to transform patient outcomes through early mobility and management of delirium in the ICU.

Jo Puntil, MS, SLP, BCS-S, is a distinguished leader specializing in patients with swallowing/communication disorders in critical care. She’s made impactful contributions to the profession through national/international lectures. Jo’s an active lecturer on MedBridge. She’s played a key role in developing interdisciplinary rehabilitation programs in critical and acute care settings for over 35 years. Her numerous honors and publications highlight her commitment to advancing knowledge, making her an invaluable resource for clinicians and researchers alike.
