Phonation Resistance Training Exercises (PhoRTE) with Expiratory Muscle Strength Training (EMST) (Recorded Past Event)

5120 5120 people viewed this event.

Phonation Resistance Training Exercises (PhoRTE) is voice therapy for pathologic age-related voice changes (presbyphonia) that occur in older adults. PhoRTE uses high intensity vocal exercise to systematically rehabilitate the vocal mechanism and improve vocal endurance. Expiratory Muscle strength training (EMST ) improves active expiratory muscle forces required for high-pressure activities such as long utterances or loud speech in vocally healthy individuals. In this 30-45 minute presentation, Drs. Hapner and Zeigler will discuss how voice therapy targeting high vocal intensity exercise (eg, PhoRTE) and EMST can play a role in improving voice outcomes for patients with presbyphonia and provide information about recent innovations in dysphagia treatment. A 15 minute Q & A session follows

PhoRTE with EMST , presented by Edie Hapner, Ph.D, CCC - SLP and Aaron Ziegler, PhD, CCC-SLP
