Impact of expiratory strength training in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Results of a randomized, sham‐controlled trial-By Emily Plowman, PhD, CCC-SLP, et. al

Article Highlights:

  • A mild‐to‐moderate intensity, EMST program was well tolerated in individuals with early ALS

  • The program resulted in significant improvements in Maximum Expiratory Pressures (MEP) and oral intake, as well as maintenance of peak cough flow and swallowing function.

  • Further studies are warranted to validate these findings and to investigate the long‐term impact of this program on ALS disease progression.
